My memories of Dr Jayant Mama are hazy because I was a young boy, but our limited interaction had a strong influence on the course of my life. I remember clearly when he hosted my family for a dinner party at his home in Ahmadabad. Despite there being so much commotion, he took the time to sit with me alone on his swing and ask me about my thoughts on various subjects and presented me with a small gift. I remember being impressed by the sumptuous dinner on the uniquely curved table and feeling like a king. He also let me tag along when he visited the medical school to give a talk. To this day, if I mention his name to anyone from Amdavad, they always have their own impressive stories to share about him. His embodiment of what a physician can accomplish, not only for his patients but for the entire community, has always been an inspiration in guiding my decisions and I hope I can pass along a small part of his wisdom to my own children.
