A Gem in the Medical Field. A jeweller of high skill and experience can know the value of the dimed. So also the persons who were in a real touch of late Dr.J.B.Haribhakti can understand what he was and what was the magnanimity and generosity of his heart. I shall quote here a real story of my patient about two decades back. There was a patient aged about 24 years, a household wife of a Bank officer staying in Mandyi’s pole, Ahmedabad. One midnight she started with acute pain in abdomen and vomiting. I was called for an emergency visit at night. On examination, the patient was fully conscious, but the pain was acute and vomiting was persistent. There were some signs suggestive of “Intestinal- obstruction’ I had given her Antispasmodic etc. and referred her to Dr.J.B.Haribhakti at Polyclinic in the morning where she was diagnosed as a case of (Intestinal-obstruction.). Dr Haribhakti had given the telephone ring and asked me Dr.Naren your Patient needs Immediate Surgery. So I consulted the relatives immediately and explained to them So the gravity of the situation, and everybody agreed for the operation. The patient was operated successfully and all necessary treatment was given immediately from the ‘Polyclinic itself’. But to our utter surprise, the patient subsequently developed ‘Paralytic Ileus’ to our horror and the patient died leaving very young children. Even Dr.Haribhatti himself felt very sorry about the same. Then after a few days, her husband and I went to Dr Haribhakti for payment towards special room charges, operation charges, operation theatre charges and all medicines which were given from the hospital viz. Injection, Glucose Saline bottles and plenty of other injections. But to our surprise, he did not accept a single paise and a blank cheque given by her husband. Her husband told Dr.Haribhakti Saheb that “Sir" I am to get all the charges as they e to be re-imbursed., but he politely said to her husband ‘Dr and me. Shah, I am very sorry for what has happened and I shall not accept any amount." This was what was Dr.M Jayant Haribhakti and his magnanimity of the heart and love and respect towards the patient.
